Per Noi Trattoria is a classic Italian restaurant with generous portions of creamy and cheesy pasta and other classic Italian fare right on the edge of Sugar House. We recommend starting with the fresh and beautiful prosciutto and melon, and the Aranchini—a large, fried round of rice and peas gently placed on a puddle of bolognese sauce. We recommend the butternut squash ravioli with tomatoes, basil, and a creamy sauce, speckled with red strands of saffron.

Their menu is on the smaller side, which we love, and their handmade pastas are the thing to get. The Rigatoni Bolognese is perfectly al dente, chewy, and hearty. The slow-cooked beef and pork bolognese is rich and savory, and the scoop of housemade ricotta dolloped on top of the pasta is the cherry on top.

We’ve never been led astray here—everything on the expansive menu is outstanding, which is why it’s one of the best restaurants in Sugar House. The old sugar mill building was then converted to a paper factory in 1860, then a bucket factory and finally a machine shop for the Utah Central Railroad until 1928. Despite the failed sugar mill, Sugar House prospered as Salt Lake's second downtown thanks to local merchants and a bustling streetcar system. There are several bars and breweries and even a great distillery in the neighborhood. Its enclosed patio is decked out with multiple outdoor fire pits, camp chairs, coleman lanterns, and a camp food inspired menu. One of the best perks is that dogs are allowed on the patio, so people and their four-legged BFFs can commiserate around the campfire with friends right in the middle of the city. Lunch is a toss-up between A La Maison Monsieur Crepes (Sweet! Savory! Hearty! Meaty! Vegan!) and The Dodo, a classic bistro-style restaurant with an oversized patio overlooking Sugar House Park.
Sugar House is one of Salt Lake City’s favorite neighborhoods (with the cutest name, we might add) and it’s not hard to figure out why. Home to leafy streets lined with bungalows, a city park with rolling green hills, stunning mountain views, and clusters of awesome restaurants spread throughout the neighborhood, Sugar House is always a fun place to be. We recommend trying the Kentucky Hot Brown, which is one of their most popular menu items. This dish comes in a hot skillet with a mound of house-brined smoked turkey that’s doused in bechamel sauce with bacon, tomatoes, Swiss cheese, toast, and an egg. They also have a list of specials which change about every two to four weeks. Their eggs benedict dish is another slam dunk, and you can choose between classic, pulled pork, or crab. Sometimes they have benedict specials, like pulled pork jalapeno—the succulent pork and spicy Hollandaise make this a memorable dish and another top recommendation. Sugarhouse has for decades been one of Salt Lake City's best – and only – zones of concentrated, locally-owned shops.
